Paradise Sound Support, a really really quick overview ------------------------------------------------------ Client 2.3p14 supports sound on a few platforms. Currently the platforms are Linux and FreeBSD. A Sparc soundserver is in the works, and may be avail. in a few months-- Check back on ftp.cs.umn.edu. Note: This sound system is incompatible with the one in Ted 0.1-0.7 and 2.3p13 Linux ----- * Uncompress the Sound Server from ftp.cs.umn.edu * chmod 755 paradise.sndsrv.linux * The Sound server MUST be named paradise.sndsrv.linux. If it isn't, rename it. * Put the Sound Server in your Path * add "soundPath: /home/smpatel/netrek/sounds" to your .paradiserc * add "soundDev: /dev/dsp" to your .paradiserc (you may use the pc-speaker sound device that is available for Linux, The sound server will detect it and use it if the device is set properly). * put the sounds that you downloaded from ftp.cs.umn.edu in the above dir. FreeBSD ------- * Uncompress the Sound Server from ftp.csi.umn.edu * chmod 755 paradise.sndsrv.freebsd * The Sound server MUST be named paradise.sndsrv.freebsd. If it isn't rename it. * Put the Sound Server in your Path * add "soundPath: /home/smpatel/netrek/sounds" to your .paradiserc * add "soundDev: /dev/dsp" to your .paradiserc (you may NOT use the pc-speaker driver for FreeBSD-- I'm working on it, E-Mail me if you'd like to help :) * put the sounds that you downloaded from ftp.cs.umn.edu in the above dir.
